National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA)

National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) was founded in 1981 on the principle that the specialized field of only gem and jewelry appraising.

The Association’s primary purpose is to recognize, and make available, the services of highly qualified, informed, experienced, independent, and professional appraisers of gems and jewelry to those members of the public requiring such expertise. In addition, NAJA seeks to promote the trademark and professional designations earned by our members and to make available continuing educational materials in order to ensure that they are among the best informed appraisers in our industry.

Finally, it is our goal to promote professionalism among our members as well as the industry as a whole. All of the above should provide reasonable assurance to the public of the professional skill, integrity, and responsibility of our members.

The National Association of Jewelry Appraisers is the only appraisal association in the United States that devotes itself solely to the appraisal of gems and jewelry and silver flatware and hollowware. All of our energies focus on these, and only these, subjects which are updated with new information as it becomes available.

Accredited Gemologists Association (AGA)

The Accredited Gemologists Association is an independent, international nonprofit organization.

Antonio Bonanno established AGA in 1974 as a way to connect gemologists from Great Britain to the US and to share  information. It has now grown to an international status. It is committed to:

- Gemological Education & Research
- Identification & Evaluation of Gem Materials
- Development of Professional Standards of Analysis, Practice & Ethics

Gemological Institute of America (GIA)

Gemological Institute of America or GIA was founded in 1931 by Robert Shipley in LA, Calif. Today the headquarters are in Carlsbad, CA with a satellite campus in NY, NY. GIA is a non-profit institute committed to education and research in gemology. GIA is known for the development of the famous and well known “four C’s” (Cut, Clarity, Color and Carat weight) and method of diamond grading The most prestigious diploma from GIA is the “Graduated Gemologist” diploma.

Gemologist Institute of America is considered to be the world’s authority in gemology.

American Society of Appraisers (ASA)

The American Society of Appraisers designated members are the most advanced professionals in their appraisal field. They are highly recognized by insurance companies, attorneys, IRS and other government agencies.

All Designated Members must be recertified every five years and complete the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).
